Jennifer Aniston, Brad Pitt “Relationship Timeline” Is Wrong

A certain tabloid is promoting a “relationship timeline” for Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt, but a significant amount of the information on it is wrong. Rather than simply sticking to indisputable facts, the article includes a number of provable falsehoods. Gossip Cop examines the inaccuracies within this fake news story below.

The problematic piece was published by Life & Style on its website on Thursday with the headline, “Here’s Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt’s Full Relationship Timeline — So Far, at Least!” And right off the bat, it’s apparent that the piece is misguided as it begins with the magazine asserting that “fans are excited” to see Aniston and Pitt are “rekindling the flame.” As both of their individual reps have repeatedly confirmed in the last few months, and as recently as earlier this week, there is absolutely nothing going on between the former spouses today.

But this flawed premise just foreshadows all of the errors that are to come. The timeline starts out innocuously enough, explaining how the stars were set up and eventually married in 2000. It’s subsequently noted that Aniston and Pitt announced their split in early 2005, after which he went public with a relationship with Angelina Jolie. In 2012, Pitt and Jolie became engaged and later that same year, Aniston accepted a proposal from Justin Theroux. Pitt and Jolie tied the knot in 2014, while Aniston and Theroux held a wedding in 2015.

In the fall of 2016, Jolie filed for divorce from Pitt, but they are still currently negotiating a settlement more than a year later. Meanwhile, Aniston and Theroux announced their separation in early 2018, although neither has filed for divorce. But for all intends and purposes, Pitt and Aniston’s own “relationship timeline” ended with their breakup over a decade ago. That’s just not what the outlet wants readers to believe, so there’s a substantial amount of misinformation mixed in.

Actress Ella Purnell. Not only did Gossip Cop bust that story at the time, but just this week Purnell ripped the romance rumors as “ridiculous.” More troublesome, though, is the contentions that are made for February 2018. That is the month Aniston split from Theroux, but the publication fills out that section by falsely alleging Pitt was helping her cope with the breakup. Those assertions have already been debunked, as seen in our archives.

Then even more egregiously, the tabloid goes on to regurgitate an April In Touch cover story that bogusly claimed Aniston and Pitt were moving in together after deciding to give that relationship another go. As we reported last month, though, the actress’s spokesperson is on record denying such claims. Life & Style then concludes with what is arguably its most outrageous lie, which is also copied from its sister outlet.

Repeating the premise of this week’s In Touch cover story, the magazine contends Aniston and Pitt are having a baby together. Not only did Gossip Cop bust this already, but this allegation was actually separately slammed by both of their reps. Aniston’s spokesperson bluntly told Gossip Cop the new article about plans for a child was “completely absurd and a total fabrication,” while Pitt’s rep was just as forthright, calling it “absolutely ridiculous.”

What makes it so absurd and ridiculous? Well, as even the reputable People has reported, Aniston and Pitt haven’t seen one another “in ages” and their relationship, to them, is “ancient history.” Less scrupulous gossip publications, however, are misleading readers and lying to fans by pretending there is a “rekindled flame” when there is not. There is no legitimate new news linking Pitt and Aniston romantically. As explained above, their joint “relationship timeline” ended quite some time ago. To make it seem like it is ongoing is just wrong.
