Sanju trailer: Watch it for Sanjay Dutt's unbelievable life, Ranbir Kapoor's performance

Almost a month after introducing fans to the world of his ambitious biopic, Sanju, filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani launched the first trailer of the film based on the life of Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt Wednesday afternoon. After watching Sanju trailer, it is difficult to pinpoint what hits you the most -- Sanjay Dutt’s life that is hard to believe or how Ranbir Kapoor manages to merge with his subject.

Sanju trailer begins with Ranbir aka Sanju talking to the audience and telling them he is happy that his ‘autobiography’ will reach them soon. The three-minute long video showcases various stages of Sanjay Dutt’s life -- from his drug addiction to ‘350 girlfriends’, his time in the jail, his father’s unshakable belief in him and much more. We also get to see Paresh Rawal, Anushka Sharma, Sonam Kapoor, Dia Mirza, Manisha Koirala, Vicky Kaushal, among others in the video. While the characters and the entire feel of the trailer is mighty impressive, the entire set up is clearly an attempt to clarify that Sanjay Dutt is “not a terrorist. We also hear Ranbir saying this over and over again - I am not a terrorist.

Sanju also stars Anushka Sharma, Manisha Koirala, Vicky Kaushal, Dia Mirza, Karishma Tanna, Jim Sarbh and Boman Irani in lead roles. While Anushka is likely to play Sanjay’s lawyer, Manisha is essaying the role of his mom, Nargis Dutt.

A few of the character portraits have been shared online including those of Sonam Kapoor, Paresh Rawal, Vicky Kaushal and Anushka Sharma.

Vicky, who plays Sanjay’s friend in Sanju, got this caption from Hirani, “Meet Vicky Kaushal. Such a refined actor and pure joy to work with him. He plays Sanju’s best buddy. #SanjuTrailer out in 2 days on 30th May!”Hirani had tweeted with a photo of Anushka, “And here is my dear friend Anushka. It’s a special appearance....but she worked on every nuance of the role for days together. Can anyone guess who she plays?....Will reveal tomorrow at the trailer launch.”

Sonam Kapoor plays Sanjay’s love interest in the film. Hirani had written with a photo of Sonam and Ranbir from the film, “A still from #Sanju’s crazy romantic love life! #SanjuTrailer out in 5 days on May 30th.”Sanju is essentially a father-son relationship and Paresh Rawal and Ranbir Kapoor’s poster reflected this, “#sanju is a father-son story. Meet the father today - Paresh Rawal. Had fun working with him. #RanbirKapoor @VVCFilms @foxstarhindi @SirPareshRawal.”

After watching the trailer, Ranbir’s dad Rishi Kapor has said in a video that since went viral, “The way Rajkumar Hirani has presented Ranbir is the biggest superb thing, the boy has really done well. I am so proud of him. I swear on (wife) Neetu and Ranbir, I did not think it was Ranbir, I thought it was Sanjay Dutt. You don’t know how emotionally triggered I am right now at the point where Vinod (Chopra) and Raju (Rajkumar Hirani) have shown me this trailer. The first appearance of Ranbir from the jail, I thought it was Sanjay Dutt.”
