Me too movement in India has been bringing forth a wave of change in the Indian film Industry. With more and more women coming out and sharing their stories of sexual harassment, we have seen things changing for the better and authorities coming forward with action to prevent all this. After a number of prominent Bollywood personalities have been named like Sajid Khan, Alok Nath, Nana Patekar, Rajat Kapoor and more, another probable name that came forward was Nawazuddin Siddiqui.

Nawaz was called out by his ex-girlfriend Niharika Singh who shared her story in a long post. However, on seeing this, Nawaz’s co-star from Sacred Games Kubbra Sait backed him and took to Twitter to share her opinion on Niharika Singh’s statement. Kubbra said that Niharika’s statement is wrongly placed and that there is a notable difference between a relationship ending bad and Me Too. She tweeted, “A relationship gone sour, isn’t #MeToo someone needs to recognise the toxic difference before we go picking sides. I stand by #NawazuddinSiddiqui or #Nowaz as a man.” In another tweet she wrote, “I stand by the fact that although Niharika Singh may have had a tough time in the industry, categorising her once personal relationship as a #MeToo statement is incorrectly placed. We as humans are flawed. That isn’t gender specific.”

This post by Kubbra Sait came after Former Miss India Niharika Singh penned down a long account of her relationship time with Nawazuddin Siddiqui. She mentioned in her post that Nawaz was involved with a number of women and that he had married someone else in Haldwani. Post this, she stopped dating him. But, her sharing this story as Me Too according to Kubbra Sait was ‘incorrectly placed.’ Me Too movement in India began after Tanushree Dutta accused Nana Patekar of sexual harassment on the sets of Horn Ok Pleassss back in 2008. Post this, a number of women opened up about their ordeal and thus, the movement gained a lot of momentum across the country.
