Mumbai, July 27 : Actress Plabita Borthakur, who made her debut with "Lipstick Under My Burkha", says Indian audience is ready to accept reality in cinema.

"Lipstick Under My Burkha" struggled for certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) earlier this year over its sexual scenes and abusive words. The film, also featuring Ratna Pathak Shah, Konkona Sen Sharma and Ahana Kumra, was later cleared for release in theatres by the Film Certification Appellate Tribunal (FCAT).

The Alankrita Shrivastava directorial, which tells the story of four small town women in search of a little freedom, released on July 21.

"It's great that the film got so much attention. I am glad I got the chance to work with such ace actors like Ratna Pathak and Konkona ma'am. It is high time we realise that women are not how they are portrayed in most films," Plabita told IANS.

She added: "The realness of the characters and the situations in the film is what is making some people uncomfortable. But it's time we stop being happy in denial, and accept reality in cinema."

The actress feels Indian audience is ready for "such realistic content".

"The best part about the film is that it is not preachy... I think it is a mirror to the society. It shows life as it is. The characters aren't either white or black, you see grey, like we all are," she added.
