Hate Story 4 movie review

The first scene of the movie drops us right in the middle of the story. It then reveals the buildup through a series of flashback sequences. I should say I am already impressed by the background music. But I want to first say that I am equally unimpressed by the overly cheesy dialogues, including one with a DDLJ reference. Sample this: “Bedroom me kiye hue wadon ki ahmiyat boardroom me nahi hoti.” Yes, cheese-burst pizza has a major complex, right about now.

We are introduced to the four main characters – Rajveer (Karan Wahi), Aryan (Vivaan Bhatena), Rishma (Ihana Dhillon) and Taasha (Urvashi Rautela). Really? Taasha? Why would you name your main lead after a ’90s villain? And Rishma? Because ’80s fans should also be able to relate? Too many unanswered questions. Well, continuing on about the story… So, all four of them are easy on the eyes. We are also introduced to Gulshan Grover’s character who is Rajveer as Aryan’s father. And tharkipana runs in their family. I don’t know what’s more unbelievable in the first half – Rajveer going from trying to date rape Taasha to falling in love with her in one song, that doesn’t even feature them, or Taasha, ‘a typical Indian girl’ with the thickest Indian accent, being paid an hefty amount to represent British heritage. All the guilt trip in the world won’t make Britishers let an Indian represent anything! Also, for the first time, you see a girl break into a song after being roofied.

The mystery of the plot has been set in motion already. A series of unnecessary but scintillating scenes have also been served on a platter. A murder happens. Urvashi gives an exposition like a daily soap vamp talking to herself. And the stakes are high for the second half. Here’s hoping it can save Hate Story 4.
