Mumbai, June 14 :  Actor Yashpal Sharma of "Lagaan" and "Gangaajal" fame says he signed the film "Chauhan", inspired by Karnal-based social activist S.P. Chauhan, because he wants to contribute a Haryanvi story to Indian cinema.

"This film is inspired by a Karnal-based social activist essayed by actor Jimmy Sheirgill. I'm playing his father who drinks a lot. He leaves drinking because of his son. I signed this film because I really want to contribute a Haryanvi story to Indian cinema," Yashpal said in a statement to IANS.

"This film is going to have a strong impact on the audience because it is a realistic film. It is expected to release in August," he added about the film that was shot in Manali, Dharamsala, Karnal and Delhi.

On the kind of films he enjoys doing, he said: "I do big films so that I can be in front of people's eyes, and small films for my satisfaction as I get different roles of my choice."
