Bengali actress Payel Chakraborty found dead under mysterious circumstances in a Siliguri hotel

A Bengali actress allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself in a hotel room in West Bengal's Jalpaiguri district, police said on Thursday. Actress Payal Chakraborty, who has been a part of TV and film industry was found hanging from a ceiling fan of her room in a hotel in a Siliguri hotel, North Bengal. The body was recovered at around 5 p.m on Wednesday, a police officer said. The 35 year old actress was a resident of West Bengal.

As per reports, hotel staff informed the police after there was no response from her room even after repeated knocks on her door. The police found the body under mysterious circumstances. "We had to break open the door of the hotel room which was locked from inside," he said. Her body was sent for autopsy and initial investigation suggests suicide. Payel had checked into the Siliguri hotel located at Church Road on Tuesday and was supposed to leave for Gangtok on Wednesday.

Payel was supposed to play a key role in an upcoming Bengali film Kelo. She also had a brief appearance in Dev starrer Cockpit. The police sources says that she got divorced recently and was depressed. She is survived by her parents and a son. Her parents who live in South Kolkata have already been contacted.Payel has been a part of shows like Ek Masher Sahitya, Goenda Ginni, and Chokher Tara Tui.
