Hyderabad Oct 26 :Is the earth really round? What if it is flat? What if all the villagers decide the shape of the earth according to their caste, creed, political affiliations, immediate gains, personal benefits, family feuds? Can the shape of the earth be decided in a fight between two groups? The case goes to the court and the judge questions - Do we really believe in our system, our values, our religion ?

 Gopatrudu is a celebrated novel written by KNY Patanjali in 1994. It is a satirical take on present day society, institutions, leaders, their  values and lack of it.

 Abot Director :

Udaya Bhanu Garikipati, has been working in theatre since last four decades. He has been a recipient of Senior Fellowship from Min of Culture, Govt.of India. Charanadasu (a Telugu adaptation of Habib Tanweer’s Charandas Chor)  a play directed by him won three Nandi Awards in the year 2000. He has been associated with Assitej India, the Indian gateway of ASSITEJ, an international organisation working for theatre for children and young audiences. He has been training actors since last three decades. He translated and adapted many plays from other Indian languages and also English such as - Sherwadkar’s Nata Samrat:, Bertolt Brecht’s Good Woman of Setzuan. 

 Director’s Note: I want every Telugu speaking person, though not every Indian, must watch this play. Reading the novel can be another alternative.

 It is dramatised and directed by Udaya Bhanu Garikipati, and staged in Tatiparti, East Godavari district in 2009. The play is now revived by Bhoomika in 2018.

 About the Actors.

Bhoomika is committed to give quality theatre and also contributing serious and good actors to Theatre, TV and Films. To that end we conduct acting classes. With a strict selection process we choose candidates and train them for 12 weeks. AND IT IS FREE. At the end of the training we choose actors who are focussed and disciplined and take them in to our theatrical productions, where next level of acting training is imparted.

As a part of that endeavour we selected about 18 actors from the last 5 batches. After rigorous practice and further training of another 12 weeks we are coming up with the play GOPATRUDU.
